Fun Facts about American Sign Language:
The inception of American Sign Language, better known as ASL, can be thanked and attributed to a man named Abbé de l’Épée. He was a French cleric back in the mid-18th century. The concept of sign language came to him when he saw two girls communicating with each other using signs. This was the birth the French Sign Language and sign language in general. This is the reason why many of the signs in ASL are similar to this language since this was what it was based on. Aside from ASL, other sign languages from different countries took inspiration from French Sign Language, over 300 different sign languages and counting in total.
